Julia writes: I work in a Creative industry, but I'm getting older (mid 30s) and have more work responsibility = more client meetings. My general work uniform is jeans and a top and a hooded sweatshirt/cardigan sweater and flipflops/sandals. black pants/skirt and top and cardigan sweater for client meetings with real shoes. Maybe a dress/sundress sometimes.
Suits would be way overdoing it. But I'd like to add a few nice jackets to the dress/pants/jeans for a more put together/professional look. I feel like that's what they do on makeover shows. And I see people wearing clothes like mine, but with jackets. HOWEVER I can't find any that aren't frumpy (bows, ruffles, etc.) tacky (ruching, zips) or look like half a suit (plain black, grey). Where is good for such things? I like color. Wouldn't like to spend more than $150 per jacket. Oh and I wear a size 2-4. Small through shoulders and waist but with slightly less smallish boobs. So I have the additional problem that jackets I do like the look of sometimes don't fit. Help!
Hey Julia, Robin here. I think you're on the right track with some nice jackets. I stayed in the blazer family because a fitted look is going to make you appear more polished, generally speaking. For the most part, the colorful coats also come in plain colors if you're looking for them. Also, I've got a few from Boden in here, but they had the broadest selection when I was looking, so feel free to check out their site if none of these work.
