Amanda writes, "Hello, you wonderful shoppers, you!! So, today was my first "Mother's Day" (I'm 25 weeks pregnant) and my husband spoiled me rotten!! I got a Philosophy gift set, an orchid, a lullaby cd for our little girl, fresh bagels for breakfast, etc. That being said, I want his first father's day to be just as special. I know you'll get a slew of these requests, but I figured I'd throw mine in too. I'd like to keep the total under $75. He likes video games and cool apps for his iPad. He enjoys reading, (his most recent was Oryx and Crake, just for an idea of style). He is currently trying to take his wardrobe from college to professional now that he's a CPA, so maybe some hip cufflinks or a wallet. He also fancies himself a beer connoisseur. He loves everything from your brother site, Uncrate, but we can't afford a lot of that stuff now that we're saving for baby. Whether you take my request or not, keep up the great work!! Thank you!"
Amanda, MP here, congrats on the baby and the fabulous hubby. I've rounded up some great options that are well below your budget, so grab 'em all. Just kidding. A sentimental gift is always best, and it sounds like you know your man well. I love the idea of setting him up with a great breakfast in bed, bringing him his iPad filled with great apps you downloaded (for free), a new book, a nice addition to his new big boy work uniform, and an IOU for a trip to a brewery. Most of all, enjoy your first Father's Day, and please send pics of that baby!
1 - L.A. Noire ($45)
2 - Barrel Cufflinks ($INQUIRE)
3 - The Year of the Flood: A Novel ($18)
4 - Marvel Comics iPad App ($FREE)
5 - Star Trek Issue 4 Mighty Wallet ($15)
6 - Along with the items I've found, as a beer lover myself, I highly recommend two extra options. A trip to a brewery. Most have free tours with samples after. A pint glass and a some pub food to commemorate the experience is a great gift. Another great option is a beer festival. Summer is a great time for a brew fest and depending on your location, there might be several only a stones throw away. The Beer Festival Calendar, cheesy as their website may be, is the definitive source, I know it'll help out.
