Personal Shopper: A Catch-all Wardrobe for Jennifer's India Trip

Jennifer M. writes, "Hi! First off I want to say how much I love this site. My spending has increased exponentially since discovering it. :) My request is kind of a unique one. I'm going to Bangalore, India, for work in mid-May and I'm completely clueless as to what is appropriate to wear there. I want to be respectful of the culture while still being stylish and comfortable. I'll be there until September so I'm looking for clothes that will be acceptable for work (I work at a bank with a business casual policy) as well as clothes to wear while exploring the area and going out. I wear anywhere from a 0-2, XS-S and a size 6 shoe. I'm planning on doing some shopping when I get out there so I'd like my initial spending budget to stay under $300 if possible. I'm looking for everything: pants, tops, dresses, shoes (heels or flats), and a bathing suit. I'd like to stick to neutrals so that I can mix and match as much as possible (a pop of color here and there with accessories is fine with me). I don't like very warm colors (no yellow, orange or brown) and I tend to wear a lot of black, although I'm aware that that probably won't work out for me so well in that climate, lol. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you so much!"

Hey Jennifer! Layla here to help! Unfortunately, I have not had the privilege of traveling to India (boo!), but I do have a good friend who spend several months there. She gave me some great advice to pass on to you! Pack light, dress modestly, and wear neutral shades that will hide the dirt and dust, of which there will be lots! Also pack a few fashion scarves that can double as a head cover when needed. Below are some neutrals and cool-colored clothing for you to consider. Oh, and each item (except the swimsuit) is under $50 to fit your budget! Have a ton of fun and mail us a postcard!

1 - ASOS Printed Fitted Shirt ($18, on sale)
2 - Glitzy Stripes Scarf ($9)
3 - Time Will Pastel Top ($33)
4 - Delicate Corps Blouse ($50)
5 - Pink Chiffon Ruffle Front Blouse ($30, on sale)

Bangalore's also pretty urban (in spots) and home to tons of IT companies. You'll be fine with anything to the knee and below (pencil skirts, a-line skirts, dresses). Mix and match with jewel toned clothing - purple, cyan, red, green. While I've never found good western wear in India, it's an amazing place to shop for Indian clothes, shoes, jewelry, scarves and other accessories. Hope this helps!
