We all have our guilty pleasures in life - the $200 blouse you just had to have, that smoky eye shadow, a sexy satin clutch. While I'm happy to play at being a fashionista, another guilty pleasure is my love of the Saturday morning cartoons from my youth. So it was no surprise that when I heard the Smurfs are hitting the big screen on July 29 - in 3-D, no less - I surreptitiously started singing, "La, la, la-la la la!"
This new movie, "The Smurfs", is a family-friendly live-action flick starring Neil Patrick Harris and Jayma Mays as a married couple who help the little blue creatures when they accidentally leave their magical village and pass through a portal into our world. Of course, archenemy Gargamel (Hank Azaria) and his equally evil cat, Azriel follow them to New York City and hilarity ensues. It's the perfect opportunity to introduce your kids to those loveable Smurfs, who computer-animation-render just as cute and cuddly as you remember them!
Jonathan Winters voices Papa Smurf, and pop superstar Katy Perry makes her film debut as the voice of Smurfette. The rest of the voice cast features stars such as George Lopez, Alan Cumming, Fred Armisen, and Kenan Thompson.
