It’s always amusing to watch first-time parents… every surface is sanitized to the nth degree, the child is fed exactly every two point five hours whether they want it or not, and a conversation with the new mum n’ dad turns into you being lectured about the latest child development statistics and medical advice. Calm ‘em down with Safe Baby Handling Tips by David & Kelly Sopp. ($10) Designed for new parents who are too sleep-deprived to read small print but could really use a laugh, it contains handy how-to pictorials on topics such as “Testing Baby’s Bottle” and “Introducing Baby to Pets.” The cover of the book even has a Wheel of Responsibility spinner to determine who’s next in line to change the diaper/soothe the crying/feed Junior/collapse in a heap. Sure, you could always get someone another frilly onesie or a box of diapers… but we can assure you this will be remembered fondly for years.
