It's not the gift, but the thought that counts...and your thought sucks! Outblush presents Your Gift Isn't Good Enough, a list of the most common gift-giving faux pas so you can avoid being the one Secret Santa everyone fears.
Just because you love a book or movie, doesn't mean your friends and family will feel the same way (we learned that lesson last year when we gave Grandma Fifty Shades of Grey). We know it's hard to admit, but maybe our tastes are not the alpha and omega of what's cool. A ludicrous notion, sure, but one at least worth considering.
We're not telling you books and DVDs are bad gifts - if that were true, they'd have to cancel Christmas. Just don't use gift-giving as a propaganda machine! It's easy to get your bookworm or movie buff a gift they'll like (or pull your niece away from the Twilight series)... Step 1: find out the receiver's tastes, specifically favorite authors, directors, zombie makeup artists, etc. Step 2: find out what they've read or seen before, and what they own and didn't buy yet. Step 3: take your favorite book out of the shopping basket and put it back on the shelf... no one but you could fully appreciate it, anyway.
