Now and again, doing this job, we get blindsided by some truly strange product blurbs, like this one: "Kick holiday decor up a notch with the world's most elegant holiday turnip."
And then you look at the picture only to find out that, in fact, it is exactly what it claims to be, complete with a silky tassel to represent the skinny rootlets. It is the world's most elegant holiday turnip. And the wordless bafflement you feel is replaced in your ribcage by a kind of fuzzy fondness.
Of course, it makes more sense when you read further to discover that it's part of a line of celebrity-designed ornaments sold to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and that it was Emeril Lagasse who contributed the Christmas turnip ($20).
