Your turn to pick for book club? Make everyone read The Age of Miracles ($15) by Karen Thompson Walker. Though the doomsday premise may sound depressing, Walker's end-of-the-world plot unravels slowly, and as shown through the hopeful eyes of preteen Julia. Julia comes of age in a time of uncertainty while battling with everyday issues like her parents' divorce and the pangs of first love. The novel has us saying a quick thanks that the earth isn't slowing beneath our feet.
