As we peer into the abyss of our tote, we wonder what story our material possessions tell, and Obsessive Consumption: What Did You Buy Today? ($14) addresses this pondering in sketchbook style. Graphic design professor and artist Kate Bingaman-Burt draws us a pictorial dairy of something she spent money on everyday until her credit card debt was paid off. A microcosm of consumer culture and a keen commentary on "retail therapy," this illuminating process is a helps understand our own shopping cravings.

It's true that opening store credit cards at my favorite stores, like Banana Republic and J. Crew always makes me spend more. Also, those coupons they send for $25 off when you use your card make me spend more too!
