In our city we're seeing signs popping up praising this house for having water-conserving gardens or that house for growing native species. We love the idea of using native plants to create a garden, and Bringing Nature Home ($17) shows us how to do that. The book explains that because native insects won't eat foreign plants, whole populations of birds and larger animals are struggling to survive. We can make a difference by simply creating a healthy habitat for wildlife, no matter how small our space. As soon as we have any kind of a yard (or patio!) we're going to try to do this!
