The incomparable Lorrie Moore, author of Birds of America and Self-Help, has released her first book of short stories in sixteen years, Bark ($19). Short fiction is where she is master of her domain, and her familiar playful tone is a comfort, even as the emotional subjects of her stories gut you. Many of the stories traverse her familiar territory of romantic relationships and poignant portraits, but for the first time, several of the stories veer into the political, showing a new side of the author.
