Doubtblush: Safety Chef Fire Extinguisher
You may have noticed that we're hardly perpetual rays of sunshine around here, but even so, we seem to spend a lot of our time enthusing about one gewgaw or another. Doubtblush exists to make it clear that we do not, in fact, like everything.
Make no mistake, we like fire extinguishers just fine. We think they're a stellar alternative to running around in circles as your house burns down. It's just ornamental fire extinguishers that we're not sure about. Apparently the hand-painted Safety Chef ($28) is supposed to enhance any decor, but we're a little creeped out by his fish-eye stare. More to the point, although he was designed to put out both grease and electrical fires, he won't put out burning wood or paper, while a proper ABC fire extinguisher will handle all three. Lastly, we think that anyone who actually bought the Safety Chef might, in the midst of a crisis, forget that he was a fire extinguisher in the first place. After all, the normal ones aren't red and obvious because red is sporty.
