The Alessi Miniature Spirale Ashtray ($32) is not kidding about its tininess. At just over 2" in diameter, this dainty piece pays homage to the original Spirale designed by Achille Castiglioni back in the 80s. It was three times bigger than this little guy. Good thing we're trying to cut down.
Arguably Italy's most famous industrial designer, Achille Castiglioni made a lasting impression on 20th century product design. He astounded everyone with this iconic Minimalist renderings of everyday items, materials, and inspirations in architecture and elsewhere. The Design Museum, Musuem of Modern Art, New York, and Milan Design Week 2010 hosted exhibitions honoring him. So yeah, "big name" doesn't really do him justice.
