Says Sam: "I need some help with my Christmas shopping! My boyfriend's family does a gift exchange every year, dividing into guys and girls. I need to find a great girl gift to give. The catch is, we can only spend $10, but the value should be more than that. Can you help me out?"
Hi, Sam - Marian the Contrarian here. As I'm sure you realized, the $10 limit gets a lot more difficult when you're talking about online shopping, if you can't count on a free shipping deal! For that reason, I've focused on stuff that you should be able to find in a nearby shopping center or mall.
If by "girl gift" you mean really, truly, incredibly girly, you can find this 1) chandelier-patterned pillowcase ($10) at Claire's, or this 2) Bath & Body Works Cellobration gift set in Moonlight Path (our favorite scent in the current lineup) for $10.
On the funky/cute side, we have a 3) pom-pom beanie ($9.50 at Old Navy), this rather likable 4) Embark messenger bag ($9 at Target), and the inimitable 5) sushi stapler ($8 at Urban Outfitters).
This last gift isn't especially girly at all, but since most of the girls we know would not be able to resist playing with it, here goes: 8) a build-your-own sound-to-light kit, $8 at Radio Shack. No, it never had another name.
Good luck at the gift exchange, Sam! Let us know what someone gave you?
