These days, we start hearing "Jingle Bells" around October 1st, and the holiday jingle onslaught continues 'til the post-Christmas clearance sales are over in mid-January. As much as we love classic songs like "Silent Night" and "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree", we thought we'd suggest some alternate tunage to you this year. Each of us editors will be presenting our Fab Five Holiday Playlist, of songs that remind us of the joy (and stress) of the holiday season, and some fun gift ideas that tie in with 'em.
1. "It Feels Like Christmas" from A Muppet Christmas Carol and (of course) The Muppet Christmas Carol - Kermit's 50th Anniversary Edition DVD ($10)
2. Lonely This Christmas by Mud and Anthon Berg Chocolate Liqueurs with Original Spirits Gift Box ($27), ya know, to numb the pain.
3. Happy Christmas (War Is Over) by John Lennon and Yoko Ono and Mystic Cobra Wrap Ring ($60), since fair trade makes us feel like we're doing something good.
4. Andy Williams' "Happy Holidays" and Essential Preservation Hall Jazz Band ($12) - jumping the gap from jazzy to total jazz classics.
5. "What's this?" from Nightmare Before Christmas and Red Crystal Eye Silver Skull Cufflinks ($40). They just go together.
