Personal Shopper: A Mulberry Alexa Wannabe for Evalyn

Evalyn emailed us with a shopping conundrum... "I've never before fallen in love with a handbag before. I know, silly me. Well, now, it's happened: I'm head over heels. The problem? My latest leather infatuation costs over a thousand dollars. It's Mulberry's Alexa Bag ....I have a task for you, the brilliant Outblush experts. I need an alternative that a student's wallet can stomach." Well, Evalyn, we cannot afford $1150 for an admittedly gorgeous bag either. And it was surprisingly hard to find bags that matched the Alexa (#1 in picture), even though the web is awash with brown leather handbags. So... without further ado, here are our closest matches - if you're really wanting a custom look, though, we'd suggest an Etsy Alchemy request.

Fossil Liberty Satchel ($148, #2) - This is a little more country, but we love the contrast stitching and removeable shoulder strap. Plenty of interior pockets for your daily must-haves.

Banana Republic Scala Satchel ($230, #3) - For a working woman take on the Alexa, this is a streamlined, refined bet. Converts to either a shoulder bag or cross-body purse.

The Sak Silverlake Convertible Satchel ($200, #4) - The braided handle and belted cinches on this bag mimic those on the Alexa, and we love the slouchy, soft leather. Use as either a shoulder bag or satchel tote.

TopShop Square Leather Satchel ($100, #5) - This one has the square shape and a similar top flap with buckles, and the color? To die for.

Anthropologie Emollient Satchel ($200, #6) - Again, buckle straps on pockets. Definitely a less constructed look than the Alexa, but stylish nonetheless. The leather is buttery soft and perfectly worn in.

Frustrated in your search for that perfect leather handbag, red stiletto pump, or whatever makes your heart go thump in the night? Send us a request and we might do the shopping work for you in a future Personal Shopper feature!

The Alexa is gorgeous. For a less expensive bag that looks somewhat closer to it than the other bags pictured, one possibility is The Cambridge Satchel Company -- http://www.cambridgesatchel.co.uk/15-vintage-brown-chestnut-satchel-48-p.asp

I too was looking for a match for the Alexa, and ended up ordering the Silverlake satchel in the tan shade. It's a great bag. The leather is very soft, and it's big enough to carry my laptop to work. The shoulder strap is much shorter than the Alexa, but the braided details and large size sold me.

lizzers - I have a 13 inch laptop. The inside of the bag is spacious, but i don't think that it would zip with a larger laptop.
