Doubtblush: Mary Katrantzou Dorchester Dress

Sometimes we're just poking along here at work (or down the street, or through our mail) and we see something that is so delightful and desirable and new and clever that we smack a big old mental sticky note on it to remind us to share it with you. And sometimes the exact opposite of that happens. Welcome to Doubtblush.

Erm. Um. Well . . . this is the kind of item that can make us doubt ourselves. We see it, we don't like it, and we start to wonder what it is that we're missing . . . but this dress. This silhouette barely qualifies it as such, to be honest - in that droopy fabric and with nothing going on at the shoulders, bust, waist, or hips, it's pretty much a smock. And though we don't automatically dislike all of designer Katrantzou's architectural pieces, the breakdown of light space and dark space on this one makes it look like it has an apron built in. Sure, it's momentarily interesting, but interesting < good, and anyway, momentarily interesting doesn't even necessarily convince us to drop a few bucks on a magazine. We could spend $1440 on so many, many, many other things.
