The Paperboat Gocco Print ($60) by Amy Rice makes us feel like we're vintage shopping in our dreams. We take the place of a girl steering an origami boat, rowing through a vintage journal page. The old style photo corners complete the reminiscent feeling. Amy, you have us wrapped around your finger.
Minneapolis-based artist Amy Rice combines hand cut stencils, hundred year old cedar shingles, spray paint, gouache, inks, and antique love letters in her non-traditional printmaking process. Her multilayered technique all starts with the Japanese Gocco printer, which turns drawings into stencils for screenprinting. Each material in her mixed media works are memory filled pieces to her puzzle; she deftly uses nostalgia to pull at our heartstrings.
