Isn't it funny how you can slap a designer logo on something and the price quadruples? A high-end name doesn't necessarily mean high quality, and you can often get the same exact effect for a fraction of the price. On a recent department store makeup counter swatching trip (What? It's fun. It's free. It's better for us than brownies.), we fell hard for Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in shade 481, the aptly named Fantastic. But then we realized... This isn't special. It's a gorgeous berried plum, sure, but it's not worth $50 plus tax! So, without further ado, we present to you two other practically identical shades, each for under $5. Enjoy your plum nails, ladies (and gents!)!
1 - Chanel Le Vernis Nail Colour in Fantastic ($50)
2 - Essie Limited Edition Style.Berry ($4.75)
3 - OPI Plugged-In Plum ($4.60)
And, as always, if you've got something you love that's out of your reach, email us and we'll find you some more budget-friendly lookalikes for a future Aspire/Acquire feature!

Chanel color is pricey, but it's 23 at Saks, not 550. The OPI, unless you are buying the mini-bottles which I don't think are sold separately, is 2.59 PLUS 4.99 shipping at amazon. Still a far better price than the Chanel, but the shipping alone is pricier than you are quoting.

I WISH I could find OPI or essie nail polish for less than $5. They're always $6.50 or more.
