YOU Be The Stylist: Elle's Strutting Her Stuff At Her Law School Ball

Elle writes: "Hey ladies, You gave me some great advice on a pixie cut a couple of years back. Now I'm hoping you can help me find a dress to strut my stuff! I will be going to my first annual law school ball with a great group of friends. Between the open bar and gorgeous venue, I have no doubt it will be amazing. But I've been going through a dating dry spell and would love to add a bit of romantic intrigue into my life. So if you're up for a slightly classier/ more mature version of prom, I'd appreciate your suggestions. I'm a size 0 and a proud member of the itty-bitty titty committee. I'm open to long or short and am a big fan of lace and open-backed dresses. Feel free to add shoes, jewelry, makeup, etc. to complete the look -- Oh, and I've since grown my hair out, so updos are again a possibility. Thanks!"

Dearest Elle, Carlota here and I'd love to help you find a fabulous dress for this awesome occasion. We're also going to let our viewers decide which look they like best for you. Hope you like them! XOXO

luxury-shopping-bags.jpgCarlota here: I'm a true girly-girl. I love strapless dresses, skinny jeans, basic ribbed tanks, lace intimates, patent peep-toes, jeweled sandals, buttery-soft leather satchels, sparkly get the point! I also love to save cash when I can, so consider me your personal concierge when you're looking for luxury-for-less. I also have a crazy husband, two little munchkins (Carlo and Milly) and a furry yellow Lab. All of them are sweet and lovable, but they certainly do occupy a good portion of my day. However,l I do L-O-V-E shopping with a passion and finding amazing deals for myself as well as for others.

Two things. First, law school balls are very much on par with the classiness and maturity of high school prom. Second, unless you are attending law school for free, I cannot urge you enough to just find something fun at a consignment shop with a price tag that doesn't reach triple digits and call it a day. Seriously, if you're living on loans, spend as little as possible on this event.

I came here to say the same thing! Barrister's Ball is less formal and classy than you're thinking. Mine was all cocktail attire, not gowns, and at my bf's (we went to different law schools), people got really sloppy drunk. I totally agree that it's in your best interest to spend as little as possible, even if you're not living off loans.
