Personal Shopper: White Tees for Two

M. wrote in with a tee inquiry: "I live in southern Florida and the temperatures are already in the upper 80s. Can you find me a great, white, NON-SEE-THROUGH t-shirt which doesn't need an extra cami or shirt underneath it? Lots of places make white t-shirts, but I can't seem to find one that is thick enough to be worn alone. Thanks! M"

And shortly thereafter we heard from Sara: "This is kind of a boring question, but I'm looking for good basic white shirts (t-shirts or knit shirts) to wear under sweaters and jackets. My current stock is getting old, stained and dingy, but a recent search only turned up shirts that were made of thin, cheap and see-through cotton, shirts that were just a little too casual, or shirts that were terribly expensive. Thanks!"

Hey ladies! Enjoy this selection of top tees, several of which are worn and loved by our own editors. M, one little tip for you if you haven't considered it - a nude colored bra does wonders for making a shirt appear more opaque!

A nude bra only helps if you have light skin. Darker skins should wear a darker bra. Basically, wear a bra in a color that is closest to your own skin color.

As for one that tends to be opaque, I have had good luck with J Crew perfect fit. And yes, nude bra always. (AK, personally I consider nude to mean close to your skin tone.) White on white is no good!

I've been on the same hunt! I finally found a great white v-neck that didn't show my tummy or cling to it at Madewell. And their pocket tees are 2 for $30 now!
