Personal Shopper: Tropical Graduation Garb for Aminah

Aminah wrote: "I am a 2/3 size in dresses and my maximum budget for one is $75. I am graduating in May and I am hosting a Graduation Luau at the end of the month of May. I am 5'1 and it is so hard finding a dress to go great with my petite size. I am looking for a tropical-style dress that isn't too formal but let's people know that I am the graduation girl. I prefer a shorter dress, a little above the knee, but I could consider a long dress as well. However, I don't want it to be so form-fitting or on the other hand very loose and baggy- mainly in between. I am pretty into fashion so nothing really bothers me except for a strapless dress, which is the main thing I don't like. I really hope you can help me with this as I only have a few months left before I graduate. Thanks and hope to hear back from you soon!"

As requested, Mitchy here! You're in luck, because not only do I love dresses, I love tropical dresses and luaus and tiki bars and Navy Grog... you get the idea. I threw quite the luau last year and I went vintage with my dress, so you may want to check out Etsy, which is chock-full of kitschy mid-century Hawaiian dresses. If you want to keep it in the 21st century, here are five dresses that will do the trick. My favorite is number 1; it's long, but should be easy to get hemmed.

1. Tropical Daze Maxi Dress ($57)
2. Monochrome-ing Around Ivory and Black Floral Print Dress ($41)
3. Paradise Found Sarong Sundress ($73)
4. Floral Print Slit Maxi Dress ($23)
5. Sugarhill Boutique Tropical Seas Dress ($48)

mitchy-dino.jpgMitchy here: I'd be happy to never put on another pair of pants. What this means for you is that I love all kinds of casual dress shopping. I also love making costumes, and retro-kitschy home decor. And though I'm one of many at Outblush, I'd like to think I am the Grand Poobah of cat ladies.
