Personal Shopper: Short Hair Help for Ashley R

Ashley R. wrote, "Hello ladies! I recently went to a new salon (my old stylist moved) per the recommendation of some girlfriends. I went in with shoulder length hair and left with the shape of a penis on my head. It was THAT bad. I went home, styled it on my own, and......no luck. It was just an awful haircut. One angry call (to get my money back) and one sad call (to make an appointment with my old salon) later I am left with an inch of hair. Imagine Natalie Portman's hair, but red, and that is me at the moment. The texture is identical, as is the thickness of my hair. I am very petite (5'1 and 100 pounds) and have always had long hair. I have ZERO idea about hair accessories. I can either make it straight or spiky -- that is it. Do ya'll have any recommendations for hair accessories and how to use them? Pins, barrettes, headbands? Can I even wear a headband?! Help!!!"

Ashley, Janetor here. I have been in the exact same position as you - penis-shaped awful Peter Pan bowl haircut (Oh, there were tears and a LOT of swearing) that ended up having to get chopped off to a pixie cut, which I loved so much, I've kept the same hair style for YEARS. Seriously, years - I've tried growing it out a few times, but each time got so frustrated with the process that I lopped it back off.

A few tips for you: Headbands and fascinators are GREAT for a fun gamine look (think Audrey Hepburn), but avoid metal ones, as (maybe I have an oddly shaped head) I find them uncomfortable and pinch-y. Wee bobby pins in multiple colors or fun little clips are also great, and you can also find tons of great old scarves at thrift stores to use as head wraps or scarf headbands clipped down with bobby pins. Also, experiment with with large earrings and bright, expressive eye make-up looks, too! I hope you make the most of your newly short 'do - I have so much fun with mine!

there is a girl who's company goes by the name Princess Lasertron...she makes custom wedding accessories but lately she's doing headbands on the side (think like the #8 above, only bigger and in whatever colors you want) if i were a tiny, cute lady with a haircut i'd jump on one of hers!
