Personal Shopper: Shoes and a bag for Marie's Disney vacation

Marie writes: "I love your website and suggestions and check it almost every day! My
question for you is a request for help! I am going to Disney for a week at the end of the month and need two things: Comfortable shoes / sneakers and something to carry the essentials in. As comfortable and practical as a fanny pack and a pair of orthopedic sneakers would be, I am looking some something comfortable modern! Any ideas for footwear and / or purse / bag? I am a size 6 foot and I am looking for something that is super comfortable for hours on my feet. For the bag I want something big enough to carry a small camera, money and sunblock, but small enough to not be a burden to carry around all day. Thanks for any help!!!"

Dear Marie! Carlota here and I'm a huge Disney fan. Being at Disney is tons of fun, but if you're not dressed appropriately, it could be a bummer! I'm here to help with suggestions of stylish shoes and bags that you can definitely wear again. Have a great trip and enjoy! xoxo

I have to disagree on the bag suggestions, except for #6. A cross body bag is totally the way to go - and stay hands free. Otherwise you're one shouldering a big-ish bag all around, all day - which gets SUPER tiresome!

But I also happen to think that #2 and 10 reek of "stereotypical midwesterner on vacay at disney."

I'm a preschool teacher, so I'm on my feet all day, and I wear a pair of #5 every day - they are super comfortable!

Hi there! I just got back from a WDW trip, and right before each one, I never know what bag to bring. No matter how many times I go. I did find LOTS of success with this bag: from Target. Awesome price, durable, and I could fit so much stuff in there. I actually want to get another one.

As for shoes, I wore flip flops but wish I had had an insert of some kind because my feet hurt from rubbing against my sandal.

Good luck & have fun!

Crossbody bags are great for Disney, but if you're like most and have babies when you visit the parks....totes are the way to go! You can fit diapers, wipes and sippy cups in any of the bags. I like #9 the best!

As for a bag, I can't say enough how much I love my Timbuk2 messenger bags. I have 2-- one for 6 years and one for 3, use them every day, and they look like they're something I bought a couple months ago. They're incredibly durable and you can fit whatever you need, stow it out of your way comfortably, and swing it around when you need something. The small and medium bags are barely pricier than these totes, and you can choose your own color combinations.
Medium is the most versatile size, I think, and black + gray is on sale for only $79.

Crossbody bags are the way to go for Disney. Personally I wouldn't recommend flip flops to anyone doing Disney. Best thing to get would be a pair of New Balance walking shoes...may not be stylish, but you do a TON of walking.

Best Disney bag I ever bought, and I've been there on vacation over 50 times.

Last I checked (which was this morning) sippy cups, diapers, wipes and a variety of entertainment and snacks all fig in cross-body bags, too. There's a super thin, lightweight one from patagonia that rocks, too.

PS. All the food places at Disney will give you a free cup of ice water if you ask nicely.

You should check out for bags too! They are all lightweight and are made for travel and super organization! I have so many different styles from them and absolutely love them all!! You can usually find their bags sold on or for a discount. Good luck with your search and have fun!
