Personal Shopper: Mod Highchairs for Jen C

Jen C. wrote, "I have been reading your blog for years and you have kept me stylish from college and beyond. Here's a challenge for you, if you accept. My husband and I are expecting our first child at the end of the year and we love modern design. Unfortunately if you mention modern and baby in the same sentence, the price doubles. Our problem now is finding a highchair we like that we can afford. The Bloom Fresco highchair is our ideal. It can change from baby to toddler seating and it is perfect for our new house. The only problem is that it is $400. With all the other baby stuff we have to buy, $400 is a bit out of our price range. I wonder if you could help us find a modern highchair that is also able to be used from baby through toddler and less than $400. Thanks so much!!! Jen"

just wanted to note from personal experience that although the Stokke looks really neet-o and has the added benefit of growing with your child, it is also very uncomfortable, according to various cousins, nieces and nephews of mind when I was looking into it. Dont know about the rest but make sure the tray is super easy to get on and off :P

We looked everywhere for a modern, clean high chair including many of the above. A few key things stood out. Practically, one with as few nooks and crannies as possible makes mealtime SO much easier - so while pads come in fun colours and look cute, it's just a ton more cleaning and no little spends enough time in a high chair to find it uncomfy. And size. So many of the clean, modern ones still took up as much space as the blech-y navy blue plaid monstrosities. Better, because at least they looked good but ultimately, we decided we wanted something that wouldn't dominate our space for the next two years. After looking at EVERYTHING, you know what we wound up with? The IKEA ANTILOP chair and tray for all of $25! Clean, modern, simple, small, easy to clean and nothing that would take over our space while the little person was, well, little!

Oh, yay! So glad you like them Jen!!! :) (And, yes, there is *one* guy, but other than that it's a total estrogen-fest around here!)
