Says Nicole: "So my budget is under a $100 and now I have two guy friends who just purchased their first home. Guy friend #1 is in his 40s, bachelor, enjoys sports & movies, coaches football, likes the beach and outdoors, easy going, a guys guy. Guy friend #2 is in his mid 30s, engaged, and is planning on moving into his new home with his soon-to-be wife. They are a sweet couple that enjoy movies, food, & travel. Both guys are very casual low key guys. A nice bottle of wine, picture frame, or plant just doesn't suit either of them."
Hi, Nicole, Marian here! We know what you mean about housewarming gifts for guys - you tend to feel kind of awkward giving them tea towels. But here are a few items that are house-y, useful, and possibly even fun!
First major category: things that go beep. If they don't have 1) Roku boxes ($80), that needs to change. The gift of streaming everything is almost beyond price. And for the guy who's getting married, in particular, why not a 2) dual iPod speaker dock ($81)? The dock I have myself is an Altec and it's great, so that's the brand I went with here. There are other models, of course. At any rate, unifying those playlists will be key to successful cohabitation.
And you know what you don't have when you move from an apartment into a house? A hose. 3) This nice fifty-foot kink-free model ($28) should come in handy for washing cars, watering plants, and keeping the neighbors off of the lawn.
And switching from one primal element to another, how about some stuff that emits fire? 4) The Big Kahuna burner ($80) is great for wok cooking and for impressing your friends. Outdoors only. And what guy could resist a 5) tiki torch ($6)?
Congratulations to your friends, Nicole!
