Personal Shopper: Holiday Maternity Wear for Katy

Katy writes: "Hi folks! I know a few of your are or recently were pregnant, so I'm hoping one of you can point me in the right direction. My husband's work holiday party is coming up in mid-December, and I'll be about 5 months along by then - I'm already rocking a bit of a bump, and am starting to enter the zone where I definitely look pregnant, not just like I've been eating like crazy (which I also have been, but that's neither here nor there). The party isn't really fancy (he works in academia), but I'd like to look cute and put-together and not like a stuffed sausage in my pre-maternity clothes. I used to wear a size 0-2, and now seem to be in maternity x-small or small, I'd prefer to spend under $150 (the more under that the better), and I don't have a preference as to whether I wear a dress, a skirt and top, pants, whatever, as long as it's cute, kind of funky, and not super-revealing (still getting used to these loaner boobs - not quite ready to put them all out there!). Thanks so much! Katy"

Hello Katy, I'm Found of You, and as I type this I am around 23 weeks pregnant with my second baby, so I've been there, and I'm there again now. Here's what's easy: Dresses. Get a few versatile dresses, and you'll float through pregnancy feeling fashionable and comfy. You'll also save some money because you won't have to buy as many tops and pants. Get a maternity LBD in a comfortable fabric. There are tons out there! You will wear it to death and throw it away after you give birth. Then get a few more dresses in versatile solid colors or prints. I have grey, hot pink, teal and two leopard print maternity frocks in rotation at the moment. Make your dresses casual with tights or leggings and flats or boots, and dress them up with high heels and jewelry. Wear your non-maternity cardigans, wraps, and sweater coats over the top. For this particular party, it sounds like you could get away with a dress, a cardigan, funky jewelry you already have around, and some fun flats. Have a ball, Mama!

As an accessorizing whiz, I can style your "What do I wear with it?!" clothing, dig up awesome maternity and nursing clothes (I'm a Mommy!), and make your tootsies look perfect in fabulous flats (or pumps, or sandals). Oh, and if you need to give someone (ME!!) a gift, I say buy 'em food and books, and I'd love to help you find just the right stuff.
