Cynthia's dilemma - I commute to and from work every day on the subway and walk to and from the subway - a distance of about a mile. My challenge is this: I prefer wearing heels at work, but my walk to and from the subway is long enough that I find my feet are aching by the time I get to work if I leave the house in heels - not a great way to start the day. I'm not a huge fan of the running shoe/skirt or running shoe/dress pant combination and all of my pants are tailored to a two-inch heel. Is there a pair of commuter shoes out there that are comfortable and stylish enough to wear with pants or a skirt, but don't look as awkward as a running shoe? I know there are lots of stylish flats out there, but they destroy the bottoms of my pants.
Hi Cynthia - Trajano here and I feel your pain in a big way. I used to commute on the T in Boston and not only is running for a train in 3-inch pumps painful, in New England winters it's downright dangerous. I had a couple pairs of commute-friendly shoes, but it being spring I focused on stuff you'd tend to wear in good weather. I'm partial to the Dankos - they're the perfect height for pants tailored to wear with heels and last for years. Good luck!
