Personal Shopper: Boat Mitzvah, Part 1 - Mother-of-the-Mitzvah'ed Style

Robin S. writes: AHOY Mates! Here is the fashion forward dilemma. Our daughter will become a Bat Mitzvah this summer. We are taking a Disney cruise to Alaska mid August to celebrate. We will actually hold the service on the cruise. Color scheme is purple and pink with some mauve thrown in for good measure. The event is semi-formal. I am a size 8 petite, 135 pounds, 5 foot one, 36-D bust. I would like to spend about 100 dollars on a dress, but I also have a hard time finding great shoes. My feet are a 7 wide and I want to find a reasonably priced shoe that will be comfortable for an all day affair, but not over 100 bucks. I love to show off my curvy figure, but I am worried about how cold it will be in Alaska. I would love a 'mother of the Bat Mitzvah girl dress' that doesn't make me feel old (I am 39). But I don't want to wear something that is too junior. I love attention, but this isn't about me, it is really about our daughter's big day becoming an adult in the eyes of her Jewish Community. I do love accessories to liven up an outfit. I don't like flowers.

Robin! I, Rachel H., did some research here. It will be cold, but you will hopefully be inside for the ceremony and any festivities that ensue. I spoke with a friend that went on an Alaskan cruise in mid-August. She said she went to formal events bare-legged and bare-armed, and just wore a cozy wrap anytime she had to be outside. I've rounded up some dresses that will let you show off a little without upstaging your Bat Mitzvah girl, shoes that won't kill you to wear all day, and flower-free accessories.
