Says Lisa: "I recently started dating a new guy and him and I have seemed to really hit it off. His birthday is coming up and I have no idea what to get him. I obviously don't want to spend a lot of money since we just started dating. He loves J Crew, music, food, and beer. Typical guy huh?? Just needed some ideas of things to get him for his special day."
Hi, Lisa! Marian here - Congratulations on finding someone new and compatible! That's exciting. Hopefully one or two of the following not-too-spendy items will be right for him!
We'll start with a couple of fairly failsafe guy movies, both of which are good for a little Large Ham: 1) The Hunt for Red October ($7? really? wow!) and 2) Hot Fuzz ($12). This 3) quote-unquote magic wallet from J.Crew seems stylistically safe, actually useful, and not too pricey, even if we're not sure that it's really magical. And if he'd like to try brewing his own beer (what guy hasn't wanted to do that at some point?) he might end up with something better than toxic moonshine if he tries it with a 4) beer making kit from the Brooklyn Brew Shop ($40, in IPA or summer wheat). No matter what you get him, though, you ought to top it off with the culinary wonder that is 5) Bacon Salt, which we can confidently say is good on everything from fresh fish to microwave mac 'n' cheese. $13 will get you three good-sized jars, in Original, Hickory, and Peppered.
Happy birthday to him!
