Personal Shopper: A size 24 opera dress for Amanda

Which leads me into my dilemma. I am a plus sized gal (size 24) and normally my wardrobe consists of jeans and flip flops year round. However, for my birthday this year, my boyfriend is taking me to the Metropolitan Opera and I have no fancy outfit to wear, nor do I know how fancy I have to be. Not necessarily! I've been to the opera several times and there were people in everything from sweats (uh, no) to full-on ballgowns.
