Personal Shopper: A Sexified-but-Appropriate Wedding Guest Dress for Anya

Anya wrote in saying, "It is that dreaded season again that every single twenty seven year old dreads; wedding season. I am hoping that you can aid me in the process and make the dress search that much easier (while preventing me from another ice-cream run). I absolutely love the black Marchesa dress worn by Kate Hudson in Bride Wars as it is sexy and appropriate. However I haven't been able to locate the dress and am hoping that you can provide some alternatives. Thanks ladies!"

The cardinal rule of wedding guest attire? Thou shalt not outshine the bride! Oh, yeah, and thou shalt weareth a garment that is appropriate for photos and maketh all the single menfolk (or, hey, womenfolk, we're not judging) at the reception ask thee to dance. Too short = out. Too tight = no way. Too low cut = NO. Strapless is okay, but this isn't the occasion for a Herve Leger bandage mini.

1) ABS Strapless Draped-Ruffle Dress ($275) - This is the closest we found to Kate's black Marchesa dress in Bride Wars. Sexy!

2) Ports 1961 Wrap Sheath Dress ($595) - Love the chocolate brown silk and the artsy gathering & draping at the waist. Pair with some brighter accessories to lighten up the color, though.

3) J. Crew Silk Taffeta Bow Monde Dress ($225) - Available in twelve rich colors (even, yes, black), the artfully tied bow is similar to the chest detailing on the Marchesa dress.

4) Suzi Chin Maggy Boutique Stretch Charmeuse Sheath Dress ($158) - We've yet to find a girl who doesn't look good in this ocean blue hue, and the ruched side seams make waists look positively tiny.
