I am on a desperate search for a circus/ringmaster inspired jacket for a costume I am putting together. I am not at all into the pre-made Halloween costumes so I am at a loss. I would love love some help/advice/awesome super secret insider tips to help me along. I would like to keep it under $100 and am a size 4/6. Thanks so much!!!"
Hi Kimmy! It's Mitchy, and I'm so glad you're not into store bought costumes; I am way too serious about Halloween and haven't worn a store bought costume since I was a dilophosaurus in third grade, but even then, my mom and I (hi Mom!) made an awesome but totally scientifically unsound frill out of poster board.
So here's a few options for your costume; what's right for you depends on how literal you want to get, what color you want, and how crafty you want to get. My favorite is the vintage marching band jacket (#1), but if you fear explaining that you're a ringmaster and not a band member with a top hat and a whip, maybe you should look elsewhere. The men's red tuxedo coat (#2) is probably huge, but has the potential for awesome if you're willing to do some sewing. Otherwise, you'll have to decide what's more important, coat tails (#3) or color (#4-7). Put that together with a top hat, whip and a pair of hot boots (and whatever degree of nekkidness you're planning on wearing under that jacket) and you're good to go! If these jackets aren't for you, your best bet is vintage--whether you go the Goodwill/Etsy/eBay route is up to you. Happy Halloween!!!
