Personal Shopper: A Holiday Dress to Hide Larissa's Tattoo

Larissa writes: "Hey Outblush! I'm a 22 year old student on a shoestring budget who runs a non-profit for young adult cancer survivors (often working with entreprenuers, politicians, and celebrities;) that being said I've been trying to find a fabulous yet semi-professional cocktail/evening dress for the upcoming holiday season but I need your help! Ideally, I'm looking for an incredible size 6 dress that's at least ½ sleeved (since I have a pretty hefty tattoo I should cleverly conceal from some of my business partners) that's still young, fresh and flirty and can carry me through more than a handful of Christmas parties, galas and banquets. My budget is around $75, but I'm willing to double that if it's a showstopper. I'm a sucker for out-of-the-ordinary, sequins, beautiful details, great colour (since I'm 'Irish fair') and trendy quirks. I do have a larger chest (34D) and I really don't want the undergarments to show, but tasteful cleavage or some back action is fair game. Think you're up for the challenge?"

Dearest Larissa! I'm Found of You. This was tougher than I thought it would be. I found a few dresses that have sleeves but are still young and fresh looking, but I also have an idea. Is your tattoo on only one arm, and are you open to a one-shoulder look? When I was looking around, I saw tons of cute dresses with one long sleeve and one sexy bare shoulder. If you tell me which arm the tattoo is on, I could find you a one-shoulder dress like #4. Oh, the metallic liquid-y fabric goodness...

1 - Victoria's Secret Banded Bottom Dress ($80)
2 - Modcloth I Want It Olive Dress ($65)
3 - Victoria's Secret Shimmer Wrap Dress ($80, in four colors)
4 - Victoria's Secret One Shoulder Metallic Dress ($70, on sale)
5 - ASOS Kimono Waisted Dress with Belt ($63)
6 - Jessica Simpson Self Tie Tunic Dress ($100, on sale)

As an accessorizing whiz, I can style your "What do I wear with it?!" clothing, dig up awesome maternity and nursing clothes (I'm a Mommy!), and make your tootsies look perfect in fabulous flats (or pumps, or sandals). Oh, and if you need to give someone (ME!!) a gift, I say buy 'em food and books, and I'd love to help you find just the right stuff.

Hey Found Of You!

It's me, Larissa! Thanks for the pretty looks!

My tattoo happens to be on my left upper arm, but not above my shoulder or below my elbow. I LOVE one shouldered looks, jewel tone colours, sequins/lace/hardware/studs/anything bedazzled/etc and interesting details like special seaming, pockets in an evening dress, or sexy cut-outs. But, I will admit, I'm not a huge fan of asymmetrical hems - no matter how trendy or fashionable they seem to be!

I definitely appreciate the work you've done to find something special and va-va-voom! It's definitely a hard request! <3<3

You're welcome, Larissa! I'll take any excuse to spend time poking around the internet for flashy one shouldered dresses, so look out for round #2 in the near future... ;)

I am so glad that Larissa asked this question and that you answered! I am also a professional who needs to cover up a half sleeve tattoo (that no one who works at my hospital with me is aware of) as well for holiday parties & professional outings. THANK-YOU! THANK-YOU! Super excited for round #2!

Cool, Meesh! Now I have even more reason to shop! Is there anything you especially love or hate in a dress?

Something that I always look for is whether or not the skirt/dress/pants are lined. Something about having lining is luxurious (and less likely to be clingy). I also tend to steer clear of anything that is either very short or incredibly long in length. (I am pretty self-conscious about my legs and height 5'3"). Other than that I'm always looking for tips on how to look awesome! Thanks :)
