Personal Shopper: A Grace Kelly-style colored wedding gown to end Stacey J.'s months-long search

Stacey J. wrote, "Dear Awesome Outblush Team, I am in serious need of assistance. I have been looking for a wedding dress for over 2 months. I've been to 7 bridal salons, several consignment shops and I've tried on over 100 dresses... I'm just tapped out and frustrated to tears. My mom has even given up on helping me! It's just bad. I should be having fun with dress shopping, but this is just painful! I don't know if you can help or if what I'm looking for really doesn't exist, but here goes nothing: I am searching for a dress that has a floaty, Ginger Roger's/Grace Kelly style bottom to it with a fun and very structured bodice (exposed boning would be awesome). I'd prefer a sweetheart neckline and halter, but I could always modify a dress to meet those preferences. Here's the kicker though: I can't stand white or offwhite or ivory or ecru or anything that is hard to differentiate from white without being next to something white. That goes for some designer's versions of "champage" which can look remarkably like other designer's "ivory". I would love to either have something in a silvery grey or a very rich gold or even a taupe/tan color. I just can't find many designers that use the darker and bolder colors on their dresses. Any help, ideas or reality checks would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks, Stacey J."

Hi Stacey, Janetor here - congratulations on your engagement! The dresses below represent the sum total of my search, and I was super disappointed that I didn't find more, even searching for evening gowns. Have you considered having your dress made just for you? There are tons of great seamstresses out there, and you can always try an Etsy Alchemy request, or even find your perfect dress in white and have it professionally dyed.

Hopefully, one of these dresses is just as perfect for you as your fiancé is. Drop us a line and let us know!

While browsing your suggestions for Stacey, I came across this one that is higher-waisted, but very similar to the inspiration picture above:

Note: It would need a halter added and it only comes in Ivory so it would need to be dyed as Janetor suggested.

Try Sarah Seven, she is a real person hand-making these dresses. I bet she would make a dress for you in a tan...and her style is very similar to what you want.

Definitely just dye a dress if you find it in the right style. My friend did that, and it turned out great!

Vera Wang sounds like the designer for you! She uses lots of tulle in her skirts, and really beautiful bodices/corsets. Most importantly, she uses lots of gray and gold fabrics. Here are some other options I found:

This one comes in silver:

J.Crew makes this Arabelle dress in gray, which would be gorgeous if the model weren't slouching:

Good luck! Think outside the box, and don't let those stuffy, greedy bridal boutiques get the best of you. ;)

Looks like that Milanoo link is broken. Just go to the site and search for "Princess Sweetheart A-Line Strapless Tulle Satin Bridal Dress"
