Personal Shopper: A Black Bridesmaid Dress for Lauren to Wear at Her Mom's Wedding

Lauren writes: "Hello Outblush, Here's the story- my mom is getting remarried this summer and has 4 "bridesmaids" to account for (me, my sister, and her fiance's two daughters). We're looking for dresses that all coordinate (by color and general style). She has been thinking black, just because it's easier to find several black dresses than several dresses of a similar color. I don't think she necessarily wants us all in the exact same dress. As a 20 year old, the dresses I suggest are probably not what she has in mind. I lean towards hot, she leans toward tasteful (understandably) and doesn't want it to be strapless. I want to look hot and tasteful, if that's possible! The bridesmaid's range in age from 20 to 26, and approximately size 2 to size 6/8. Ultimately, I'm requesting suggestions of a black dress with something fun, unique, and special about it, youthful, flattering and something I will want to wear again at future parties, yet is still tasteful. Price range is <$200-$250. I'm typically a 4 or a 6. Thank you! Lauren"

Hey Lauren! I'm Found of You. If your Mom is having an outdoor ceremony or reception, she should reconsider the black dresses. I went to a wedding that was outdoors in hot July weather, and all the bridesmaids were wearing black dresses. It just looked wrong to have all that beautiful summery weather and seven bridesmaids all sweating in their black dresses. You could all wear different shades of a summery color like yellow, pink, or green, and it would look great. J. Crew has a ton of cute dresses all in the same colors, so you could each pick your own dress, but have them all be in the same color. I'll do another Personal Shopper for you if you want! Anyway... I still picked you out some black dresses that will be tasteful for your Mom's wedding, but you still might want to wear again. Remember, this is your Mom's day! Bridesmaids are supposed to make the bride look good.

As an accessorizing whiz, I can style your "What do I wear with it?!" clothing, dig up awesome maternity and nursing clothes (I'm a Mommy!), and make your tootsies look perfect in fabulous flats (or pumps, or sandals). Oh, and if you need to give someone (ME!!) a gift, I say buy 'em food and books, and I'd love to help you find just the right stuff.

Aw, I think LBDs look great in the summer - as long as they aren't too heavy and the flowers are bright! Just thinking you could all get 'infinity' dresses (the ones that can be worn multiple ways) and then wear them all differently and still match. Plus, you can make the style conservative for the wedding and more revealing for future events. This sort of thing: http://www.etsy.com/shop/staysilee
