Culture Club: Art Breaker Paperweight

Ok, the Art Breaker Paperweight ($65) seems like a hideous excuse for play on words at first, but when we see how it spins and can be rearranged in any way we want, we're turned on. All paperweights should do something rather than just sit there, in our opinion, and the two 14K gold and sterling-silver-plated steel pieces rotate on this mobile item. Make a heart and spread the love or take a chance on some other abstract shiny shape.

The man behind this heart is named François Dallegret, a French designer active in the 1960s and 1970s. This particular piece was designed in 1974, and it follows his tendency to create "artful playthings for the 20th century." His Atomix toy uses contained silver balls to create patterns when jostled, and his Self Balancing Table Lamp will never fall down despite its rounded shape. All these curious objects are worth taking a gander at, but more in depth study seems like an obscure headache.
