We're going all out platinum with the Amelia Dish ($56) by Clotet Lluís for Alessi. The Barcelona born designer's rich array of new kitchen forms are definitely welcome in our modern kitchen. We feel like we just got out of a physics science fair looking at the undulating sculptural surface, but we'll leave the vector calculations to the brains.
We have a secret for you. The Amèlia Dish is actually an abstract homage to literature. Although the connection is tenuous at best, the piece is inspired by the characters from the novels of the Spanish poet J. Vincente Foix, the originator of the Catalan avant-garde who ran in a creative circle with the likes of artists Miro and Dali. For more information on the writer, see David H. Rosenthal's Poetry of J. V. Foix, a close reading of his cumulative work, or check out these four short translations.
