Cat

You didn't think we'd just do it for dogs, did you? We at Outblush are crazy cat ladies at heart, even though canines are practically couture these days. Anyhow, June is Adopt-A-Cat month, and we encourage you to bring home a new furball if you're interested and able. We'd also especially like to put in a word for older felines, who don't get adopted nearly so readily as kittens do. A couple of us here have taken in grown-up cats, and they make for grateful and devoted pets. A sweet kitty who purrs to you makes a house (or even a squished apartment) into a home.

Aww! Wookit da ickle puddies!

Gooey sentiment aside, I've adopted 2 shelter cats, 1 adult & 1 kitten, and am so happy I did. They may be annoying sometimes but they're the sweetest little kitties on the planet! Thanks for this post!

Thank you so much for posting this!

I volunteer for a cat adoption organization. Older cats make the best companions. A lot of shelter pets are surrenders from people who move and don't take them, have a baby and no longer can "care" for the cat, or have financial woes and just can't afford another mouth to feed. These cats are so grateful to be out of a small cage and in a loving home. I have 6, all shelter cats or strays, and can't imagine life without them.

If you can't have a cat at home, you even volunteer at a shelter playing with the cats so they are social and easily assimilate into a new home. A lot of PetSmart and Petco stores that have cats are staffed by volunteers...like me!

I adopted an adult shelter cat a year ago, and he's the sweetest guy ever. There was a little extra cost getting him healthy (poor guy had been on the street), but he was worth it. I have a friend waiting at the door when I come home; he starts meowing when he hears me coming. He even sleeps against my pillow at night!

Save a life and adopt a shelter animal.

I adopted an adult shelter cat 5 months ago, and he has been great. He goes straight to my room when I come home, and always wants to cuddle up against someone. People have said he's the nicest cat they've ever met. :)

I also went in looking for an adult cat. I think you can tell more about what you are getting with an adult than with a kitten.

I just adopted a beautiful baby kitten two days ago! He's snuggling with me right now! I'm excited you posted this. Shelter cats are the best :)

I adopted two kitties way back in the 90's. They are both 16 years old now and I love them just as much today as I did when I could hold them in the palm of my hand! Adopting pets from shelters is so very very rewarding! When the time comes again, which I hope and pray is not too soon, I will adopt once again. I also have "inherited" my son's adopted cat because his adopted DOG doesn't get along with this cat. Sooo Trapper, Tobey and Phoenix live happily with me and they make my life complete! Oh and btw they are all orange kittys!
