When Annie Clark (aka St. Vincent) was on The Colbert Report recently to talk about her new self-titled album ($10), she described her music as being at the intersection of "accessibility and lunatic fringe", and also threw in "technoshamanism." We would have never been able to come up with such fitting descriptions for the album by ourselves, but there you have it. She's come a long, long way since her days in The Polyphonic Spree (oh yeah, had you forgotten about them?), releasing four solo albums, plus a collaborative album with David Byrne. St. VIncent sounds like St. Vincent, with her distinct otherworldly vibe and songs alternating between her haunting coo over gorgeous melodies and some seriously freaky guitar shredding.
