While the name conjures up images of big, looming beastly creatures, Monsters of Folk ($8) is actually quite an enjoyable musical experience. The supergroup is made up of M. Ward (She & Him), Jim James (My Morning Jacket), Conor Oberst and Mike Mogis (Bright Eyes) and their music is melodic, relaxing and yet somehow still upbeat. And people, you should hear the harmonies - they're enough to make a girl swoon.

i am SO STOKED to see this on OB! i'm a long time bright eyes fan, geez, i think i started listening to conor/bright eyes in 8th grade? i feel old. anyway, m ward, jim james, and mike mogis are timeless too. also, i just saw them about two weeks ago at the orpheum theatre here in phoenix. incredible. their talent is epic. <3 MOF!

So, so glad you like it! It always feels a bit risky to put up music reviews (individual taste and all that), and it's great to know we've got readers who appreciate us spreading the word about different artists.

I am also stiked this is on here!!!! What am I listening to right now you ask? Umm this album. It is awesome on every level. I saw them last week here in Omaha, and it was amaaaazing. My husband went to high school with Conor, and we are both HUGE fans of M Ward, so how could we not love this? It is so worth a listen, I promise. I also <3 MOF!!

This record is much too good to be true. I thought I was dreaming when I heard they'd all gotten together.
