Jakob Dylan - Women & Country
Jakob Dylan's new album Women & Country ($10) has a melancholy sweetness that is both consoling and haunting. You could listen to these songs while cooking Sunday dinner or mending a busted up heart and would find in them a good companion. The backup vocals of Neko Case and Kelly Hogan add soulful harmony and depth to most tracks and the songs they lend their voices to would certainly feel hollow and lacking without their talent. The instrumentation is stellar, particularly the percussion, which feels as crucial as a heartbeat to the rhythm of these ballads and laments.
