Whip It

The DVD of Drew Barrymore's directorial debut, Whip It, ($19, out 1/26/10) is a fast, bumpy ride, just like the roller derby world it's set in. Ellen Page's game turn as Bliss Cavendar, new recruit to the Hurl Scouts, offers laughs and a surprising amount of heart, but it's the supporting roles that make this movie shine like a greased roller skate. (We heart Kristen Wiig's high-larious Maggie Mayhem!) It's a kicky departure from the typical girl power movie about bands, figure skaters, or ballroom dancers... and grrrl, we're diggin' every tattooed second.
