The Hurt Locker

Excellent acting and writing gave The Hurt Locker ($19) a well-deserved nomination for Best Picture at this year's Golden Globes. The realism is devastating in this fictional piece about the current war in Iraq. Gut-wrenching performances tell an all-too accurate narrative about active duty and its effect on soldiers. This isn't a light-hearted piece, but a brilliant portrayal of a subject that's never pleasant.
