Jeremy Northam's singularly brilliant and swoon-able turn as Mr. Knightley in the 1996 version of Emma aside, the new Masterpiece Classic: Emma miniseries ($22, on DVD 2/9/10) might just be our personal favorite adaptation of Austen's classic novel to date. (Please note: we didn't say the most faithful to Jane Austen's novel, we just said our personal favorite.) Romola Garai is effervescent as Emma Woodhouse, the slightly ditsy, spoiled, flighty sweetheart who thinks herself Cupid personified. This interpretation is light, funny, and just plain lovely in its' attention to period detail and subtle humor. We do hope you'll agree.
