Sure, school's (almost) out for the summer and all kids can think about is eating a dozen ice pops a day and running around with the best squirt gun in the neighborhood. But it won't be too harmful to sneak in a little summer learnin'. We like the idea of teaching our nieces and nephews about plant growth. The Toysmith Root Viewer ($10) shows off not just the tops of veggies and plants, but (as the name suggests) the roots, too. Maybe it'll pique their interest enough that they'll stop chasing the ice cream truck for part of each afternoon and help in the garden!
