Whether we like it or not, we pretty much need 24/7 access to the internet. Well, unless we decide to live off the grid. (Yeah, right.) But let's face it, being tethered 24/7 to the computer isn't exactly the fast track to a healthy lifestyle. Netbooks? Phht. PassÄ—. Smartphones? Precious, yes, but they're not the most practical way to get things done or, um, watch Hulu. What's in between? The ultra-mobile PC or UMPC. They haven't caught on yet, but then none have been as good as the sleek, solidly built Viliv S5 ultra-mobile PC ($549). The Viliv S5 is small enough to toss into a bag, but its 4.8" touchscreen still provides ample screen real estate (to watch Hulu). It runs Windows XP, has great battery life (up to seven hours), and even flaunts a built-in GPS. Get one of these, and you got the future in your hands.
