Earbuds work well enough, but it's high time we invested in a good pair of noise-canceling headphones. The Radio Silenz Headphones ($) by Tivoli Audio will make it much more bearable to take public transportation, whether we're busing it across town or flying to the opposite coast. Their Defeat button temporarily fades the noise cancellation and audio so that you can hear your stop being called (or eavesdrop on the neighboring conversation) without removing the headphones. Not that we eavesdrop. That would be rude.
