Apple iPad

While the name makes us snicker (hello, does Apple have any women working for them?), it's definitely worth noting that Apple released the iPad yesterday. The tablet is an amped-up iPod touch, but the practical applications are strong - recipes in the kitchen, movies in bed, light enough to travel with ease. You can get a Wi-Fi iPad (starting at $499) to use on existing Wi-Fi networks, or, for wireless access anywhere, you can pony up some extra dough for the 3G iPad (starting at $629). This is a cool, cutting-edge piece of technology for having fun on the run or a handy 'computer' to use around the house, but if you're looking for a compact workhorse, we're not sure it's the best option.

For those enamored with the ipad, I suggest you wait for the inevitable improved version apple will release in the coming months. For a full ipad analysis, check out: http://i.gizmodo.com/5458292/apple-ipad-everything-you-need-to-know

I'm annoyed this blog would even suggest this device to women. C'mon how can you possibly suggest this to users? It's a horrible attempt at a tablet. In fact it's another example of Apple telling people what they can and cannot do with Apple products. How can you have fun on the run while it's the same size as the Kindle? I can't whip this out in the club or find it convenient enough to take while I'm out jogging.

It's a iPod Touch with a larger screen. Save your money and don't buy it.

While I reserve judgement for the iPad until I've used one, I will say that calling the linked Asus a "compact workhorse" is far from the truth. Unless of course, your "work" is surfing the web. Which you might do to verify that the linked product is even current.

The iPad had so much potential, and it failed. And WHY did they have to name it the "iPad?" ICK. My Palm Pre does more than this thing, and cost about 1/3 the price. Apple could have, and SHOULD have done so much more with this; and the concepts that people made up all over the internet looked better than Apple's product. Such a let-down. I'll stick to my MacBook Pro and my Pre until the new generation MBP comes out. I won't waste my money on the iPad. At least not until it can do what my MBP & Pre do. Jobs claimed it was the best of both worlds between the iPhone and the Mac. Um...total fail.

Is this basically a laptop without the keyboard? I don't understand people's obsession with touch-screen. I find a keyboard much faster. Yeah, the price is crazy too.
