We recently received a box of Sweet Jewels Cake Balls ($15-35) in the mail... and wow. These little guys may look small (about the size of a golf ball), but just half of one is enough to put you into a sugar buzz zone. Confectioner Julie Tran Le (who is also the head of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Library in NYC) takes crumbled red velvet cake and mixes it with rich cream cheese frosting to form a truffle base, which gets rolled into balls. The resulting cake balls then get enrobed in sweet chocolate, and draped with flecks of coconut. Oh. Man. We'll be doing a long stint on the treadmill tonight, but it was so worth it.
Full disclosure: Outblush received a free sample of this product.
